Knowing Some Slots History

The slot machine is an interesting gaming invention that is being enjoyed by players up to this day. The first slot machine was invented by Pitt and Sittman in New York. The first design of this slot machine has five drums that will show their poker hands. This has no payback mechanism, so that those who owned the slot paid the prizes in their own, usually in forms of free drinks.

Then later on , the history of slot evolved when Charlie Fey created his first own version of the slot, and named it the Liberty Bell. He placed his slot machine in the basement of his house. There, the slot machine was hardly noticed until such time that it was transferred to the Flamingo Hotel, in the Las Vegas Strip.

The first slot machine that was invented by Fey is far different from the one that exist today. His slot was heavily made as it weighs over 100 pounds of cast iron, and has no fruit symbols that are now common to all slots. Instead of the fruit symbols, the images were the star, horseshoe, and suits from the playing cards such as the diamond and spades. The Liberty Bell has a payout of fifty cents to the winners then. This was a big amount during those years.

The Liberty Bell slot machine that was first created by Fey is still a common fixture at the Liberty Belle Saloon and Restaurant found in Reno. This establishment is owned by his grandchildren, and carefully take care of the legacy of the first slot machine that was invented by Fey.

Another mark in the history of slots is when Fey created the Operator Bell Slot machine. This type of slot machine now carries the famous fruit design, and became the icon for the slots. With this development, the history of slot was changed forever.

The time came when the people began complaining about this slot gaming. Hence Fey was clever enough to switch his invention to another type which is the vending machine. This invention later propagated to the vending machine industry.

The anti-gambling movement was a serious blow to Fey. In 1909, the slot machines were declared illegal in San Francisco, and on the later year in Nevada. This was a bad year in the history of slot machine. Until such time when "Bugsy" Siegel, a notorious organized crime figure built the Flamingo Hilton on the now Las Vegas strip. 'Bugsy" put some slot machine in his casino to keep the wives and girlfriend of his rich casino clients busy and that will be thru playing these slots. From then on the history of slots flourished.

The slots became popular in the U.S. and now all over the world.
